Frock Fridays: SBQL

clockwise from top left: book / song 1 / song 2 / look / quote

The weekend has arrived, dear readers!  When I published a Frock Fridays for my upcoming American bachelorette back in June, it seemed ages and ages away - but I'm picking Sarah up from National this morning and then we're heading to the shore!  Actually, I'm not sure it can technically be called "the shore" because the house we've found for the weekend is not, in fact, on Maryland's famous Eastern Shore; it's on the western side of the Chesapeake Bay.  But we're definitely still on the beach and tomorrow night's crab feast is all arranged and, just in case the threatening thunderstorms predicted do break, there's a wonderful antiques mall nearby, so it will be perfect.  (What makes it even more perfect is that we don't have to drive over the Bay Bridge to get there.  That thing scares the [expletive] out of me!)  Sarah has organized such a fun weekend and I can't wait to hit the road - and the sand.

I'm bringing a new book I picked up at Costco last weekend titled An Unexpected Guest.  Here's the dustjacket blurb about it:

Clare Moorhouse, the American wife of a high-ranking British diplomat in Paris, is arranging an official dinner crucial to her husband's career. As she shops for fresh stalks of asparagus and works out the menu and seating arrangements, her day is complicated by the unexpected arrival of her son and a random encounter with a Turkish man, whom she discovers is a suspected terrorist.

It's intelligent and beautifully written, but a bit more of a beach read than the work on American religious history I started last weekend!  I read the first chapter the other night and had to force myself to save the rest for this vacation.

We'll also have tunes, obviously, and I predict that our weekend anthems will be Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines plus the Darius Rucker cover of Wagon Wheel.  I'm packing my kazoo, so, really, we can't go wrong.  (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, watch this.)

The quote part of today's SBQL post is pretty obvious - this weekend is all about my sister and the ten amazing girls who are joining us.  (In other words, it's about the eleven friends who will be celebrating with me!  Sarah transcended the sister/friend boundary long ago.)  I've known some for more than a fifteen years and two I met only last summer, but friendship isn't just about time; it's also about heart.

And then finally we have the look for the weekend!  I will actually be wearing this dress (thank you, Target clearance) and this bathing suit and these espadrilles (thank you, J Crew sale) and similar sunglasses.  I don't have a towel that's nearly as nice as this one, but I did order that LLBean tote as a surprise for Sarah!  It's monogrammed, of course...

I've been told to leave my laptop at home, dear readers, so I can really be in the moment all weekend.  It's possible that I'll sneak in some tweets or Instagrams, but, just in case, I'll wish you all a wonderful weekend now!  And don't forget to enter my giveaway - it's not only for brides, I promise!  We all have a special occasion that calls for something a little extra, don't we?  Hey, maybe I should bring a fascinator to the shore...

  1. That quote makes my heart smile. My soulmate, BFF, etc made me a book when I left my first teaching job (and her) to move with Joe. She hand drew every single page and included friendship quotes. That was the first one with a 'you know exactly when this happened' in brackets beside it and it makes me laugh every time.

Have a lovely weekend celebrating with friends :)

  5. Friendship isn't about time; it's also about heart. This sings to me Betsy! My mum told me this week that she can't believe I'm so close to the friends I've made since moving to London. I tried to explain as best I could, but should have just told her this. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  9. Oh Betsy, you need the Old Crow Medicine Show version of Wagon Wheel. :)

Have such a great time! I'm actually heading to a bachelorette party out of town this weekend too for a dear college friend. 12 hours traveling in 2 days is well worth it for her. Love the outfit too! (of course)

  10. Love your polyvore! That towel is so cute. I'd add it to my stack for pool-side life in no time. Enjoy your weekend, have a blast at The Shore, and I hope the traffic is not too bad crossing over from Annapolis to 'the other side'!

  14. So growing up my sister was scared of heights (probably still is?) and the bridge to St. Simon's Island (one of GA's gorgeous barrier islands) is a pretty tall one, so she would always put her head between her knees as we drove over it. When she was 15/16 and either had her learner's or had just gotten her license (I don't remember) my mom let her drive the whole way down to St. Simon's. When we got to the bridge I freaked out, because I didn't know how she was gonna drive if she put her head between her knees! We made it, though.
And I'm not normally scared of going over bridges (don't ever talk to me about stopping under one, though. Not gonna happen. And if it does, I'm gonna be 1-second-to-panic until we're out) but that Bay Bridge is scary! FIVE MILES on that skinny little thing?! WHAT?!?!

Happy Bachelorette weekend!! Have the best time!
