I'd Like To Check You...

Jon and I don't really have a special song, but I'm not at all ashamed to admit that Charlie and I have our own sountrack.  It's primarily made up of Beatles songs, including I Wanna Hold Your Hand, tweaked as you'd expect, and Norwegian Wood, adapted for our purposes to "I once had a dog or should I say he once had me," but Charlie also engages enthusiastically when I conduct Beethoven's Fifth and the 1812 Overture.  Unfortunately, he's totally over Frozen.  You can only ask a dog to build a snowman with you so many times before he gets annoyed, you know?  Now that the weather is warmer and we're spending a lot more time outside, we've added one new song to our shared repertoire and it's just so fun and absurd that, in case you're not a country music fan and haven't heard it yet, I just have to post it here:

chorus:
I'd like to walk you
Through a field of wildflowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks

On that note (pun intended, obviously) please let me remind you to check your pets regularly for ticks, which carry diseases that can prove fatal.  If you walk your dog in grassy or wooded areas, check him/her daily; here's a guide for how to identify and remove ticks.  Charlie loves getting checked because it's essentially a full-body belly rub!  And if I sing to him at the same time - well, it's bliss.

  1. Fifty and I have a song; The Time by Black Eyed Peas. I have no idea why it's 'our' song, but whenever it would come on the radio, Fifty and I would dance around the living room together :)

  2. As soon as I saw this header, I 1) recognized the song and 2) wondered if Charlie got a tick. It's good that he enjoys the check so much! Our long-haired golden was not a fan.

  3. well, all the love songs are strange to sing to a dog - canine/human romance isfrowned upon, generally - so the whole thing is meant a bit tongue-in-cheek!

  6. That is so cute. I feel like a bad dog owner for not having a song for Pickle and I! Ticks are horrid - Pickle is regularly medicated, but she still gets them regularly. I have got a funny tick story from last year...Luke was routinely checking her when he yelled 'HOLLY...GRAB THE TWEEZERS, I HAVE FOUND ONE AND IT IS HUGE', so off I toddle and come back, asking where and he shows me her nipple. I said 'Luke, that is her nipple', but he wasn't having any of it. In the end I had to show him her other nipples to prove it. Now Luke calls her tick nipple, poor old girl. Imagine if he had tried to tweeze it out though...ouch!!

  7. haha I'm sure you have lots of songs in your heart :)

and OMG that is why I can never get a female dog. I would always be afraid that a nipple was a tumor or something. ah!
