I Know About Popular

I'm a month away from having blogged for three years - can you believe it?  While my style and content have evolved somewhat over that time as I've found my voice and become more comfortable expanding beyond my expat niche, I love looking back at those old posts and remembering who I was back then and seeing how far I've come.  Yes, as Lisa said last week, they sometimes make me cringe because I really didn't know what I was doing, but they're part of my story and keeping them up (and cleaning them up) helps hold me honest as a blogger.

So when I decided to create a top posts page for Betsy Transatlantically, I knew I had to include a few selections from the archives.  I picked my favorites based on those that have been most visited over the years but also those that feel most true to me - I'd love to have 20 up there, but I got sucked into fixing old posts with broken links and misattributed images and just decided to publish with 6 for now.  I do want to add to the page, though, so please let me know if you have suggestions for what I should include!

(This song has been stuck in my head all morning as I've worked on this post, which is why I put a lyric up as the title, so it's only fair to share it with you...)

  2. Congrats! 3 years is a long time! I started my first blog (then called an online journal) in 1999. Thank goodness I've moved on from there. ;)

  3. Wow, so exciting that you're coming up on three years... that is amazing! :) It's been so fun following along on your journey throughout the last six months or so and I can't wait to continue to follow along far into the future! Going to check out your page now.

  4. I know what you mean about reading old posts! My writing has improved a lot since I started my blog, and sometimes I look back at old posts and think "wow, that writing isn't very good at all.", and clean it up without changing the meaning or intention of the post.

I'm glad you're coming up on your third anniversary...I love reading your blog and look forward to more. :)

  5. The cringe I feel when I read my old posts makes me oddly happy, because I can see how far I've come :)
