Frock Fridays: Cinderella Moment

I was invited to brunch with Jamie, Emily, and Brea last Sunday - if you're in the DC area, you've got to go to Sette Osteria for their amazing Eggs Benedict and bottomless mimosas - and we got to talking about my upcoming wedding.  (They asked, I swear!)  The conversation turned to The Dress, as it always does, and I realized that the story about how I found my wedding gown is pretty lame.  I'm excited about it, really, but it didn't happen magically.

To be honest, I'm usually fine with that and I might blog about it down the road; it's just not the sort of thing that girls hope to hear when they imagine the glitter of engagement.  But, on my way home, it hit me that it was exactly six months until Jon and I get married and, for some reason, I suddenly wanted some kind of Cinderella moment.  I mean, look at all the sparkle!

So I started wondering how I could incorporate a bit more of that into my wedding at the end of August.  Bling isn't usually my thing, and I'm not going to go overboard with it when we actually get married - though I'm learning that "overboard" is a relative term when it comes to weddings - but I remembered seeing these adorable Kate Spade earrings back at Christmas and knew I had to build an outfit around them!

They're actually kind of obnoxious, as far as simple jewelry goes, and I could probably only get away with bragging on my ears in the first days after the wedding - so here's how I might wake up a Mrs on August 25!  The wedding is on Saturday but we have Bruisyard Hall all weekend and we're planning a barbecue for the whole family at the estate on our first day as newlyweds.  It's England, which means that God only knows what the weather will do and so I'll have a cardigan on hand just in case, but I'll also embrace the idea of summer and bridal attire with this stunning white and gold Azzaro frock.  My engagement ring isn't yellow gold, but I'm mostly okay with mixing my metals - so we'll throw in a Cartier tri-tone Trinity bracelet and a Tiffany's Milgrain band for my right hand to tie it all together.  Add a pair of classic gold braided sandals, and you've got the day made.  Since we won't be honeymooning until our first anniversary rolls around in 2014, I think this is a perfect outfit for the day after the wedding!

  8. It looks very Grecian chic. And I want. Which is strange, since I normally shy away from yellow gold.

  15. Gorgeous outfit! And I love the idea of a special outfit to wear for your day-after family event - how fun to have something new that will remind you of your big day, which you can wear again and remember the fun! I think we should still do the trousseau thing...
