Labor Day

It's always seemed a bit funny to me that, in the States, we celebrate Labor Day - a holiday in which we celebrate the contributions of workers - by giving everyone a holiday.  We definitely deserve to take a break, but it's a bit ironic, don't you think?

Anyway, I've been thinking a lot lately about aspiration and achievements in work (and elsewhere) and I've got a post prepared for later this week to discuss some of my musings - I hope you'll indulge me, dear readers.  But especially at this time of year, with a new academic term beginning and elections on the horizon, it's important to talk about what we strive for and why.  I certainly don't have all the answers, but it'll be good to start a conversation.  Can't wait to hear what you think in response!

The one thing I do know for sure is that no matter what sort of background you come from or how well you scored on the SATs or which college you attended:

Just something to think about on this Labor Day, as we step away from our day jobs for this three-day weekend!
