Frock Fridays: Burgundy Taffeta for Thanksgiving and Christmas

This afternoon, having spent nearly three hours driving back to my parents' house in the DC suburbs after a wonderful Thanksgiving in Charlottesville and another two hours in the car picking Charlie up and bringing him home, Jon and I are hopping on a BoltBus up to W 33rd and 11th Avenue to spend 36 hours in New York City.

Actually, we'll only be enjoying about 24 hours in Manhattan - the other 12 or so will be spent in Connecticut for our friends' epic annual Thanksgiving soirée!  There will be much singing, dancing, drinking, and general merriment, and I'm so excited to head up there to share the holiday with the fabulous family that hosts the party and their - now our - friends.  (This is my sixth soiree and Jon's third; ever since his first, we've tried to plan our Thanksgiving weekends around attending it!)  The Christmas season can't start until we've belted out the Hallelujah chorus, six hands on the piano keys and harmonies ringing through the house, and it really is the most festive way to welcome the most wonderful time of the year.

I'm also excited to debut this gorgeous frock, which arrived from Azazie the other week.  Launched in September as an online-only retailer aimed at the wedding crowd, Azazie creates affordable custom special occasion dresses tailored to your measurements.  They've got a huge selection of styles, most of which come in 30 different colors - I wanted a retro shape in a winter-friendly fabric and hue, so I chose the Kira in burgundy taffeta.  The parcel appeared on my doorstep three weeks after I placed my order, and I was so impressed by the quality of the dress.  The craftsmanship and tailoring are fantastic and even my mom, who sews and has very high standards, said it looks like it should cost a lot more than it does.  It's perfect for the holiday season!

I'll be back on social media later today, so make sure to look out for my #ootd photo on Instagram to see this dress in action at the soirée!

I was given this dress for free from Azazie to review; as usual, all opinions are my own.
