Frock Fridays: Fall Wraps

The time has come, the walrus said, to put away my summer dresses and replace them with those more appropriate for cooler weather!  I keep all of my fall/winter clothes in an underbed box from the Container Store, and this weekend I'll drag them out, shake them loose of wrinkles, and hang them - casual on the left shading into formal on the right - in my half of the closet.  My warm weather dresses will be assessed and those that aren't trashed or donated will be folded into the now-empty underbed box and pushed back under the bed to hibernate until spring.

Side note: do you guys know about Fashion Project?  Emily Fleming once commented on all those Instagram closet sales by saying that she hopes she can always afford to donate her used clothing.  I hadn't thought of it from that angle before, but it stuck with me and I totally agree.  That being said, it's nice to get a little something back for your well-loved pieces, so I've started donating through Fashion Project.  It's a resale website, but 55% of the net proceeds from every item sold are contributed to an amazing charity.  If you donate certain brands of clothes and accessories, you get to chose the non-profit your items will support and you can get a gift-certificate from Nordstrom as a thank-you.  I've had really great experiences with this company!

Anyway, I'm excited to rediscover my fall and winter dresses.  I'm sure I won't be crazy about everything I packed away last spring (and will be requesting another donation bag from Fashion Project so someone else can love what I don't anymore), but I'm especially looking forward to breaking out wrap and surplice dresses.  Those are my cool weather work staples!  I probably won't have an excuse to buy more, but this is the sort of thing you'll be seeing me in for the next few months...

  1. I definitely need to switch out my spring/summer wardrobe for my fall/winter.

Only a few times have I sold my things. I like being able to donate them, although some secondhand clothing stores aren't exactly ethical. I understand that not everyone can afford to give away their old things--I've been there, and I might be entering that season of life again. But when I can give away things, it's a nice thing to do.

  3. oh, I've definitely sold my clothes - and will again, I'm sure - but it's a nice mentality, you know?

  4. I didn't know about this site but I'll definitely look into this! I do get a great feeling when I'm able to donate my clothing, but since we are on a very tight budget, I try to sell my old clothes when I can.
