Fancies and a (Friday) Frock

Sorry about all the alliteration in the title there, dear readers!  I'm just feeling a bit merry.  After two intense posts in a row, I think Betsy Transatlantically can use a little gaiety, don't you?  (I'm so looking forward to digging properly into your comments from Monday and I am grateful you indulged me in a postscript.  Thank you!)  Next week will be more lighthearted here, I promise.

Anyway, a lot has been going on behind the scenes in my personal life, and I thought today might be a good time to share!  You might have seen a hint or two about these things on Instagram and/or Twitter...

Jon is visiting!  When we realized a few weeks ago that there's a difference between having our application approved and actually having the visa granted, which adds another month or two to our wait for Jon to move over, my mother very generously offered us enough air miles for a round-trip flight so that we could see each other.  If we'd been apart from late December to late April, which is what we had expected, the separation would have been bearable; late December to who-knows-when in June, which is now what it's looking like, is much harder.  So we booked a last-minute transatlantic flight and Jon will arrive in DC tonight!  Yes, legally he does have to return to London to wait out our visa process after this trip, but he's here for a week and a half and I'm so happy.

Also, I started a new job this past week.  You might have noticed that I scrubbed nearly all references to work from this blog a while ago and I'll be keeping my professional life (mostly) offline, but it's a big deal and I'm excited and I wanted to let you know that's why I haven't been around social media much recently.  I feel like I've jumped straight into the deep end at my new company and I love it!

In other news, spring has finally really sprung in DC.  I think I might copy Amanda next week and write my own ABCs of the season.  This is Jon's first spring in the States and there's so much I want to do with him to celebrate!  It's going to be a blast.  One of the outings I've already arranged is to see the cherry blossoms on the Mall - of course I made a fantasy outfit for the activity!
