The Sunday Currently XIX

currently...

reading... all of your amazing responses to my questions on blogging from Monday's post. A few of you have apologized for leaving me essays, but I love them!  Your thoughts provided some guidance to my wandering musings and, as I expected, provoked new and deeper explorations.  (To the readers who brought issues of neofeminism into their answers to the third question: I love you.)  If you haven't filled out the form yet, there's still time!  I'll close it to responses at 6pm EST, so you have until then to answer and enter to win a sweet little something from Anthropologie!

writing... draft after draft of tomorrow's post, which will start to pull together my thoughts on blogging from the past month's break as well as your responses from that form.  I'm glad I've given myself two Mondays to blog about this, because there's just so much there!  Check back tomorrow - I can't wait to see what you make of it all.

wearing... my go-to comfy outfit: my Old Navy Diva skinnies, a white tank, and a worn navy shawl cardigan (like this one) that I've had forever.  You know how you always hear girls saying they can't wait to get home from work and take off their clothes?  Well, this is what I change into at the end of the day if I've been wearing something unusually businesslike.

listening... to the Van Morrison Pandora station.  Is there anything better on a Sunday?

thinking... about the meaning of Lent.  Pope Francis' Lenten message is even more powerful amidst all the Facebook statuses merrily announcing a 40-day hiatus from social media and tweets about the sacrifice of abstaining from sweets until Easter, and I think his entreaty to "confront the poverty of our brothers and sisters, to touch it, to make it our own and to take practical steps to alleviate it" is a fundamental idea that everyone can support regardless of faith, don't you?

smelling... the sweet smell of pastry and chocolate!  My friend Jenny came over this morning to help me make Nutella Hamantaschen for Purim, which is this coming Saturday.  (If you don't know what I'm talking about, make sure you're here on Tuesday, when I tell you about one of the most fun holidays in the Jewish calendar!)

wishing... that spring really were here.  Yesterday was gorgeous, with temperatures in the 60s and brilliant sunlight, but the end of the week in DC is going to be cold and rainy with a slight possibility of more snow.  Not to jump on this bandwagon or anything, but I am so over winter.

hoping... to see Jon soon! Because we just realized that our visa process is going to take a month or two longer than we'd expected, which would mean we'd have spent six straight months apart since the last time we saw each other by the time he moves over, we're looking into the possibility of a transatlantic flight in April.  Fingers crossed it works!

loving... open windows and fresh air in my apartment.

feeling... optimistic.  Happy Sunday, dear readers!

  1. I am so looking forward to your post about blogging tomorrow! Also, the long distance thing is ROUGH. I'm currently in the same boat right now with my fiance, and we're only a few states apart instead of separated by an ocean! I hope the visa thing works out for you though!

  2. Recommend any of your favorite Van Morrison songs? I always knew and liked Someone Like You, Brown Eyed Girl (thought not as CRAZY about it as every girl on the planet...) and Moondance. Thanks to The 5-Year Engagement, I discovered Jackie Wilson Said and Bright Side of the Road, and I really love both of them. Would love to have some tips for exploring his stuff some more!

  3. Hope you can get your flights sorted! I also love the open shawl cardigan style, you can wrap them up like a blanket which makes them so comfy and not have any boob smooshing!
