Baby Steps in Stacking

I always wore a ring or two in high school.  We got our class rings halfway through 11th grade and that stayed on my right hand until I went to college, even after I fell asleep in the junior lounge with my hand on the radiator and the silver melted the band into an uneven shape.  My high school boyfriend bought me a lovely amethyst ring for our six month anniversary that I wore on my left middle finger through the rest of our relationship.  (Six months and a ring was a big deal when I was 16!  There was much swooning.)  Even then, though, I wasn't big on tons of jewelry; my necklaces were usually classic pendants on silver chains, I rotated between a few cuff bracelets but only ever wore one at a time and never on the wrist where my watch lived, and I kept it to one ring per hand.  Interestingly, though, I was always pretty creative with my earrings.  I wore studs to school every day but there are pictures of me from parties and dances carrying the weight of the world in my earlobes.  I never mer a chandelier earring I didn't like back then!

These days I make more of an effort to be more exciting with my necklaces and earrings on a daily basis - though never at the same time - but my fingers are still relatively bare.  I went through a cocktail ring phase for nights out in my early 20s and for the next few years wore a relatively simple ring (or two, but only if they were stacking) on my right hand and, since I got engaged, I've only worn the solitaire and band that Jon gave me.

A few weeks ago, though, I instagrammed a beautiful tri-color interlocking ring for #fmsphotoaday and it got me thinking about reintroducing a little sparkle to my right hand.  It would only be the right hand and only on one finger, you understand, but my reticence doesn't have to be boring!  I like the idea of keeping things relatively simple but still noteworthy, and stacking rings absolutely fit the bill.  To be honest, I'm a little surprised that my eye was drawn to all of these yellow gold pieces because I usually stick with silver-colored jewelry, but I guess that just shows how adventurous I'm being!

  1. I've been thinking about a really delicate stacking ring or rings lately too. I LOVE #3 in rose gold.

  2. I love the rose gold for #3! but my skin tone changes SO much between summer and winter - I think rose gold would only work 25% of the time on me :(

  7. I love the ones in 1 and 2! My mother in law has four of them like 2 - a birthstone each for her, her husband, and her two children.

  8. I love stacking rings so much but with my short fingers they are always up to my knuckle and that is so awkward to deal with. Now that it is winter though I am always worried to wear a ring and it get stuck in my gloves and somehow losing them.
