Frock Fridays: Rockin' Pretty

There's something you might not know about Jon.  He's kind of metal.  At least, he thinks he's metal.  Or is it rock?  I have no idea.  But, when I met him, he loved loud angry music.  He had been to more concerts with mosh pits than he could count plus four Reading Festivals all before the age of 20.  He even owned an electric guitar (and an amp!) that he swore he'd learn to play.  Then university and work and having a girlfriend got in the way of everything and, though he talks about revisiting the scene, I think that phase of his life is mostly over.  He and his Dad actually went to see Meatloaf live a couple of years ago - they had fun but I think it was sort of sad for everyone involved.

But he loves wearing his faded concert tees from those teenage years as well as the ones with strange symbols on them that he's picked up more recently in Camden or wherever.  I obviously prefer him to dress a little preppier and I do sometimes make halfhearted attempts to hide/trash/burn the more objectionable of the tees, but I get that they're a link to his carefree youth.  However, he knows I love it when he wears a proper button-up, and I very much appreciate the effort he makes when I'm in town!  It's the sweetest thing when I realize that he's wearing a shirt or jumper I've ever given him just because he wants to make me happy.

So I thought that for today's Frock Fridays I could return the favor with a rockin' pretty outfit.  I don't actually own any of these pieces (except for identical flats and similar studs) but the dress is only $20... I might surprise him with it, you know!  Do you think I could pull this look off, dear readers?  I'd like to try, believe it or not!

  4. You should really show up one day in an outfit like this! Trying on different styles can have such am impact on our mood and help us escape from the mundane once in awhile. Also my husband had an electric guitar and amp when we met that he could play and I was so not sad to see them go!

  10. LOVE that jacket! But I wonder if he'd appreciate it more if you got a t-shirt of his favorite band or outfit, like In Rainbows or Black Sabbath. Vintage rock Tees from portobello market are pretty awesome ;-) totally get this, btw. I love Peter in an old radiohead shirt from high school, but I LOVE him in head to toe j. Crew!

  11. UGH he would. he would probably love me most in a band tee and jeans and shoes in which I can walk ALL OVER LONDON without wanting to sit down every few hours. you are a wise woman :)

  14. is it me, or do the Chanel and the flower earrings kind of contradict the "metal" vibe you were going for? :) I mean...try to picture Coco Chanel at a rock concert. just for fun.

  16. Our guys would get along. My husband is the sweetest guy - and then he listens to all this thrash metal, especially when he's working. Love the outfit - I would totally wear this, except I'd probably replace the flats with my motorcycle boots. Okay, I don't have a metal side, but I do have a hard rock side. :)

  20. Make a t-shirt quilt out of all the old "keepsakes" so he can't actually wear them again but can look upon them lovingly?? :)
