Oh, Dad. I guess the only thing worse than helping you learn Twitter would be not helping you learn Twitter and releasing you to the wild of the interwebs with no understanding of the dangers therein.
This classic xkcd comic isn't entirely relevant, but I think about it every time a parent or grandparent calls me with a computer question so it's perfect to share here anyway:
*According to Dad, people who use Twitter are "twits." (When I told him about David Cameron's radio show slip-up from a few years ago, he laughed.) Follow me on Twitter for more updates on our progress... And please let me know if you have any guidance on how to navigate parents through social media!
I'm embarrassed to say that my parents were on Facebook, Twitter, and were blogging way before I was. I come from a family of tech geeks :)
ReplyDeleteHaha this is too funny! I don't know what I would do if my parents joined twitter. My mom just created a facebook account and I'm horrified ;)

cute is one word for it... haha
ReplyDeleteyeah, Dad's been on Facebook for a while. my Mother has more sense!
ReplyDelete"twitter is forever"! LOVE this. haha. My mom calls it "the twitter" and reads it all the time on her phone. If she finds anything funny she reads it out loud for us all to hear :)
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious! And that comic is spot on. People always think I'm a genius for fixing things, when really I have no clue and I'm just clicking around haha.
ReplyDeleteI really like it when individuals get together and share opinions.
ReplyDeleteGreat website, continue the good work!

I am so sharing this flowchart with my grandma. Also, I think your dad needs to read this: http://www.momthisishowtwitterworks.com/.
ReplyDeleteI so want to hang out with you AND your parents! This is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI refer to it as "The Tw*tter" around our house. Let's just say it's something much more unseemly than "The Twitter". (Also a word that I honestly didn't know (until recently) is so bad in America-land... although I didn't hear it much before we moved to England, and it's not so crass over there.)
Seriously, though- you've got a goldmine on your hands with these comments!
haha me too - but shh don't tell! I like it when the older generation thinks I'm brilliant :)
ReplyDeleteYES THIS. I just sent it to my Dad - I'll let you know what he says...
ReplyDeletelove it :) Did you see the Jewish mom clip I posted a few weeks ago? "Friend your grandma on the Facebook!"
ReplyDelete"I just don't want to read the stupid stuff." Yes! My husband always says stuff like, "I don't mind people. I just don't like the stupid people." :) Smart men.
ReplyDeletethis. is. amazing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing. My Dad is on twitter and he usually just tweets nonsensical replies to my tweets!

hahah yes my favorite is "there are no stupid questions - just stupid people"
ReplyDeletewell, I did once tweet an Instagram and Dad then then emailed me to ask about it...
ReplyDeletehaha! but YES. that word and the C word get thrown around a LOT more in England than they did here. you know that scene in Bridesmaids where Kristen Wiig calls a teenager the C word? All my friends and colleagues in London just thought it was funny... they didn't get that it was such a big deal!
ReplyDeleteThat flow chart is spot on! I would weep if my mother tried to tweet, Facebook is bad enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that my parents don't do social media! haha. This has to be interesting for you though. I love that flow chart!
