Sorry.
I'm done now.
Promise.
See that picture up there? I noticed it on chevrons & éclairs a few weeks ago and was inspired. Now, you have to understand that my idea of DIY is going to Michael's and buying lots of crafty things and putting them all out on the dining room table and walking away and hoping that, by the time I return, they will have made themselves into something pretty. (It never seems to work out that way, for some reason.) So that was the first obstacle that I was up against when I decided I wanted to replace the functional-but-boring case I had been using for years with this kind of necklace storage/display.
The second obstacle was that I actually wanted to use my necklace tree. That means that it would have to fit on a dresser that sees daily abuse and therefore isn't so bare as the one above. Plus, it would have to be stable enough to hold an assortment of chains of different lengths and weights.
I think we can agree that the deck was stacked against me as I contemplated this project.
But, you know, many would say that I'm an accomplished woman. If I could write a dissertation on twelfth-century issues of gender and sexuality, I could make a necklace tree. I mean, right? Right. And here's how I did it.
How cool is that? I don't think I've ever been more proud of myself. I never should have doubted, you know. After all, my mother is very crafty, and they say the apple doesn't fall far from...
Sorry.
So cool! I have an earring tree. But it's not a real tree, just in the shape of a tree and purchased from target! But yours is so much better!
ReplyDeleteSO cool - and surprisingly simple enough for me to do myself :) It really turned out great - the perfect addition to your dresser!

Oh, that's so cute! i think Ben would be all "umm, why is there a tree in our bedroom?" but if I had a dresser, this little craft would be all over it. I like it.
ReplyDeletehaha I'm pretty sure that Jon will veto this when we live together - so I have to get my crafty fix now!
ReplyDeletethanks! there probably is a more complicated way to do this... but why make life harder? :P
ReplyDeletemaybe I have too much stuff, but the ones you can buy never fit all of my trinkets! so I turned to nature... haha :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love the natural feel of it...absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeletethis looks great. I would love to put one in my room
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks so awesome! I might have to try that out.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a cool idea! And I love your version. I love using twigs and branches for unexpected things in the home. I found a branch I really loved once and hung it on the wall where we had a picture previously and it just worked so it's still there years later. I've recomended your blog to a friend who is just starting her theatre career in London and the south east, by the way. Told her to check out the archives as well :)
ReplyDeleteLook at you getting all crafty! It came out great.
ReplyDeleteI'm the least crafty person in the world (I was not raised to worship at the alter of puff paint, although sometimes I really do wish I had been) but I think I might be able to pull this off. I love it! :)
ooohhhh I need a branch like this for my crows at Halloween, thing is though I have to lug it half way across London on a bus ... gonna look a right weirdo !!! As for the afters I like this cute idea but I just dont have anywhere to actually put it !!!
