An hour after I told Camilla I couldn't come, my mom got an email from her neighborhood listserve and told me that a woman a few streets over was looking for a last-minute babysitter for New Year's Eve. Since I didn't have plans anymore, I called the neighbor right away - and got hired! It's not a fabulous bash, but some extra pocket money isn't something I can turn down right now.
They don't need me until 9pm, so I'll head to my parents' for a festive dinner and we'll do a champagne toast at 7pm, which is midnight in London and will make me feel like I'm celebrating with Jon!
The silver lining to not going up to Boston and to having a calm (and relatively early) night is that I'm going to start off 2014 in the best way possible: with a 10k! There's a Resolution Race on New Year's Day in Leesburg, VA - I welcomed 2013 with a gentle run through the early morning light in Suffolk, and it felt like a really good way to begin the new year. I'm looking forward to doing that again!
Just for fun: when I thought I was going up to Boston for the party, I made a fab collage of an outfit similar to the one I planned on packing. Obviously I'll be wearing something quite different now, but I love the dress too much not to share...
That entire outfit... a winner!!! I hope you have a wonderful evening babysitting and an even better run the next morning!! Sounds like a great start to "The Year of Betsy!"
ReplyDeleteThat dress is beautiful!! I'm a huge fan of the one shoulder.
ReplyDeleteAt least you have your outfit picked for next year! x
ReplyDeleteNo glitz here for New Year's Eve either... also baby duty :) but I'm starting the year off with a race too - can't wait. Hope yours is fun!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, it's been impossible to nail down NYE plans for everyone this year! We've been trying to plan a glamorous dinner party, but the only people we could get to commit were our neighbors--I still plan on wearing a pretty dress and breaking out the wedding china, even though it will be just four of us. Have fun in Leesburg! Treat yourself to some pizza at Fireworks after the race :)
ReplyDeleteThat dress! I soooo wish I had a use for it.
ReplyDeleteearly night that you get paid to go to, without having to worry about parking, getting a ride home drunk and coming home with sweaty, smelly smoky hair and clothes? sounds like the perfect way to ring in the new year to me! Happy New Year, Betsy!
ReplyDeleteOooh, that is definitely a great dress! Maybe you will have another occasion soon for some sparkles. :) Good luck at your race!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress. I've never done anything on New Year's Eve that requires a sparkly cocktail, but I always like to pretend that I will.
