embarrassing moment for Jon from his father's speech at the rehearsal dinner
Dear readers, I'm married! It's so strange - waking up next to Jon felt like any other early morning together. I opened my eyes before the alarm, rustling the duvet as I sat up and checked my phone; he sighed and, in his sleep, reached for me, and he smiled when I whispered "good morning."
But then I remember Saturday, the best day of my life. It might be sacrilegious to say this, but it wasn't the wedding in and of itself that made August 24 so amazing. From the moment my father and I walked into the barn, I felt absolutely enveloped in love. Jon and I spent an entire evening surrounded by so much joy - it was tangible. 97 people had come from all over the world to celebrate our marriage with us, and our wedding day was just as much about sharing that with them as it was repeating vows and exchanging rings. In the space of five minutes, I got to squeal with a friend I've known since I was 8, hug a dear classmate from university, introduce myself to newly acquired aunts and uncles, and kiss my husband. It was magical.
I think that Jon has finally understood what this world of blogging means to me because of our wedding. I read him every single tweet wishing us a beautiful day, and his cynicism melted a bit each time I explained who the message from. We smiled over dozens and dozens of tweets from women I'd never even met before, each one making me feel like you were here with us at Bruisyard, and that made the joy greater.
As you know, Jon's definition of what's private (and therefore shouldn't be blogged) is different from mine, so we're going to work on a post or two about the wedding together this week. Yes, we're heading up to Norfolk this morning for our honeymoon, but it will be wonderful to relive our favorite moments from Saturday while pouring over the photos that are currently being posted to Facebook and Instagram. I want to make sure I respect what Jon is and isn't comfortable with sharing while sharing our wedding with you!
In the meantime, thank you. And, if Jon's family - now my family - are reading this blog as you threatened to: welcome! I'm so glad we got to share our day with you. Here's to many more happy days to come!
Can't wait to see pictures! Have a lovely relaxing honeymoon :) xxx
ReplyDeleteYayayayayayay!!! I'm so so happy for you two! I've been stalking your instagram feed like a hawk, and from what I've seen, the wedding looks like it was absolutely magical :) Enjoy your honeymoon... and can't wait to see what you and Jon decide to share together.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Really take the time to enjoy each other's company at this time. It is the sweetest time, post wedding bliss. Look forward to the wedding deets.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteYou wrote a sentence on something I've been thinking about and so I'd be interested in your opinion. How come after a wedding we come to call our partner's family our family? It sounds so instant, yet becoming one's family takes time and you were probably as much family as you are now than you were before the wedding. It's not a judgment by the way, I got married recently myself and had never thought about it before so got awkward feelings when my husband's family started saying I was family! Wait what, I am family because I signed a piece of paper with your son? It makes me wonder if I would have become family if we had been together longer but without being married. How come weddings change family relations like that? Is it because they now know you're here for good and we all might as well be family? Haha so many thoughts!
Con-grat-uuuuuu-la-tions!!!! (Again!) I cannot say enough how I excited I am - and I'm so glad that your wedding day was so full of joy and love, isn't it amazing?!? :) Enjoy your honeymoon (ok, I know you will anyway), and every moment of marital-honeymoon-bliss :D <3
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm so happy for you! I can't wait to see more photos. From the ones on instagram you are beautiful and look incandescently happy! xx
ReplyDeleteah, yay yay! congratulations! so incredibly excited for you two!!
ReplyDeleteI have all of those thoughts too! actually, I'm planning a whole post about it - I absolutely loved our wedding, obviously, and I know we're still in the glow from it, but I'm not any more committed to Jon in my heart today than I was just before we said "I do." The same sentiment goes for the merging-of-families thing. SO MANY THOUGHTS!
ReplyDelete(thank you!)
Again, many congratulations... I agree that "magical" is the word for that feeling of first walking in to the seeing all of those people who came because they love and support and are so happy for you - something you'll never forget. And as amazing as that sounds, the relaxing together on the honeymoon is EVEN BETTER - so enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteahhhhhh, so excited for you both! i've greatly enjoyed all of your instagram photos. i'm so glad everything went well, & i look forward to reading more about it! have fun with your husband!
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations to you both and enjoy your honeymoon!

ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you both!!!! I love all the pictures on Instagram. Seriously, they're just lovely. The signpost with the different cities and distances was just too perfect.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it's awesome that you talk to Jon about what you can and cannot share. Beau and I do that too. He's actually even more comfortable than I am--he wouldn't have a problem with our full names and cities and everything attached to my blog.
YAY! :) I'm so happy you said it was the best day of your life, exactly as it should be. So glad all your planning paid off and you got to spend time with the people you love most!

ReplyDeleteYea!!! Best wishes to you and your new husband! I'm a new reader to your blog but I enjoyed following you on your wedding journey. As a newlywed myself (I got married in October 2012), I understand what you went through. I look forward to reading more about your wedding and I would love your thoughts about the whole name changing thing. Not sure if you had already decided or discussed this in a previous post but this is an issue that still causing a bit of tension between me and my husband. I find it's difficult for me to give up my name and assume a new one after 27 years of living.
ReplyDeleteThanks for answering, I did hope you would make a post about it, looking forward to it :)
ReplyDeleteWooo, congrats girl!!
ReplyDeleteI'm tearing up more over your wedding than I did mine- and I'm not even there! I love that you've spoken (written) about the best part of a wedding- the celebration with a room entirely full of face you know and love.

ReplyDeleteI wrote about it here - http://www.betsytransatlantically.com/2013/02/wedding-wednesday-whats-in-name.html - but I'm happy to answer more specific questions if you have them! There are some links you might find interesting in the post and definitely read the comments because a lot of people chimed in with what they have done or will do and why!

ReplyDeleteI think it's great that your husband (!!) is coming around to the idea of your blogging pals, my boyfriend is pretty sceptical sometimes about the whole blogging friendships thing, but when I get him involved he does seem to come around to it more.
