Wedding Wednesday: Best Dog / Dog of Honor

I'd love for Charlie to participate in our wedding.  It sounds delightful in theory - in practice, though, it would probably be more trouble than anything else.  Charlie is still somewhat a puppy and I don't expect him to lose any of his rambunctiousness over the next six weeks, so the idea of asking him to do anything other than eat, sleep, or play on his own terms is a bit foolish.  Plus, even though it's easier than it used to be to bring a dog into the UK, putting Charlie on two eight hour flights just for a week in Suffolk really isn't fair.  So, even though it will break my heart to drop him off at the kennel when I fly to England in mid-August, he'll be staying in the States while Jon and I get married.

But if Charlie could play a role in our wedding, I'd take my cues from these sweet Labs...

Charlie would look so handsome with a string of pearls or a garland of flowers around his neck!  I might have to find an excuse closer to home for him to wear a bow tie...

  1. Our biggest regret about our wedding is that Sloan couldn't be in it. Our original venue, for our original December date, allowed her, but the one we switched to when we bumped it all up to April didn't allow dogs. Buttheads. Max was our first legitimate child- we didn't adopt him until 6 weeks after we got married. ;)

But we were getting married 10 minutes from where I lived at the time, so there wasn't a flight involved. It would, however, have required driving PAST the dogpark, so who's to say she wouldn't have pitched a fit!

  2. Dogs in bowties = win! These labs look lovely. My dream is to one day have a dog who is well-trained enough to do things like strut down the aisle, but I am a huge softie and will more likely end up with a sassy-for-life pup like the two we have now. :-P

  4. Do a newlyweds portrait session after all the honeymooning and moving and stuff is over. It would be a fun chance to get dressed up, and you could put Charlie in a bow tie :)

  7. SO cute! I would love to have my yellow lab in my wedding... if only South Africa wasn't so far away. Can't believe your big day is six weeks away - time is flying!

  10. I reallly wanted to do it and Nick kept saying no. I'm not sure how she would have done though, haha. She'd end up running around the church!

  11. Oh man, I have yet to go to a wedding that had a dog, but I would die. I would love it so so much. That picture with the lab wearing the thank you sign--if I get that I would almost need to send a thank you for the thank you card!

Maybe I'm just a bit dog obsessed.

  12. One trick I saw was that aisle-seated guests at certain intervals were given biscuits, so the dog just went down the aisle, from one guest to the next! I've seen similar set-ups bribing young flower girls/ring bearers, too.

  13. If I was getting married all over again I would love to be able to have Fifty participate. However, I know that the reality of that would be a hysterical disaster.

  15. It's a shame that Charlie won't be able to take part in your wedding, but I can understand why. He's an awesome dog. :)
