When Jon and I lived in London together, we would have an aspirational Sunday every few weeks. We'd pick a yummy place for brunch in a neighborhood that we couldn't quite afford, and then we'd wander around, popping into shops and peeking down sidestreets, imagining what it would be like to live there. We'd almost always browse the estate agents' windows - sometimes we'd even go in and ask about properties that caught our eye.
Even though Jon will be moving to the States after the wedding and we'll be making a home in the DC area, I still love imagining other lives that we could create. If we were starting married life in London, maybe we could find a place like
this gorgeous two-storey flat in Camden...
I love the white! So fresh and ... so clean clean.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and cozy! Jurg and I love to dream too... we often walk through furniture and appliance shops and point out what we would buy if we had unlimited funding :)

Gahhh that place is beyond gorgeous! The hubs and I do the very same thing from time to time...especially when thinking about where the Air Force will move us next. It's fun to search for homes/furniture/fixtures and dream about what our perfect home would look like someday! P.S.-we're currently looking at homes in the DC area...crossing our fingers the AF will send us that way next! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my favorite things to do! We go to furniture store and pick out what we'd have if we bought a house. LOVE! That apartment is fab. Like a dream!
ReplyDeletehaha so do we! we get really into it - like, "oh, yes, that chair would be perfect for our house at the beach but really this lamp is better for the New York pied a terre..."
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness I bet! you get to try out every design style in every new place if you want :) and DC really?!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so lovely. I certainly wouldn't mind sipping some tea and snuggling up with a book in a home like that! It's fun to pretend with dream homes! :)
ReplyDeleteSK and I used to do that on Capitol Hill!
ReplyDeleteI want the curtain and lights... wait, that's definitely a DIY! Now, I just need the furniture and loft to go with it.
ReplyDeleteThat place is amazing. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteOne of our favorite activities is to faux-househunt, particularly in wealthy areas. When my Yorkshire Life magazine would arrive we would sit on the couch and peruse the homes and estates for sale, weighing pros and cons and debating whether we'd have to take that wall down or not...
This all started when we were in Idaho and had to go up to Ketchum (Sun Valley) for Max's orthopedic surgeon. When you're killing time for an entire day, broke in general but scrounging pennies to pay a few thousand for your dog's new hip/elbow surgery/knee repair/replacement new hip/etc, you find affordable ways to entertain yourself. We'd get the local real estate magazine, go to an amazing diner for lunch (seriously- $6 giant free-range Kobe beef burgers and $4 homemade soup in bowls as big as my head) and "buy" houses. If we found a particularly good one, we'd go drive to it, but most of them had thick wooded lots and electric gates. Silly rich people.
haha so did we went Jon came at Thanksgiving! There was a gorgeous single-family home near Eastern Market for $6.7m and we totally landscaped the yard as we walked past...
ReplyDeleteI'm packing my bags and moving in! I love how calming and peaceful it is!
ReplyDeleteAspirational Sunday...what a cool idea! I'm kind of obsessed with all white rooms and those twinkle lights are so dreamy. Thanks for letting me imagine this is my home for a few minutes.
ReplyDeleteMoving/decorating would be so much more fun on an unlimited budget - but it is fun to dream! Although we are super excited about our move and about decorating our new place, it can be a bit depressing to pick up a magazine like Restoration Hardware and realize you love all of it and can afford none of it :/ Ah well - good thing there's ikea ;)
ReplyDeletehaha I'm so glad we're not the only ones who do this! it's also a safe way for us to explore the other's (sometimes conflicting) tastes without having reality on the line...
ReplyDeleteI know! I was wondering if someone really lives here with all of this or if it was staged for the shoot?
ReplyDeleteyes! the first time we went to Ikea together to get things for our flat and he pointed at a sample kitchen and said, "that's our aspirational kitchen" I knew he was the one for me :)
ReplyDeletewould you be interested in another set of roommates? I'd love a place like that ...
ReplyDeletehaha okay but you and Matt get the baby's room!
ReplyDeleteI still stalk letting agencies in London even though we've been back in the States for almost a year. And I definitely always wander outside our budget, "just to see."
ReplyDeleteThat place looks divine, and I especially love that its farmhouse-whimsy even in the middle of a somewhat hip/grungy area in London.
This place looks absolutely gorgeous! I love all the natural light and the neutral color palette. It's so dreamy!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, it's definitely good to be prepared just in case your ship comes in! :P
ReplyDeleteOh. my. goodness. This place is absolutely beautiful! Nick and I were watching House Hunters like we always do and it always makes me smile when we agree upon places that we like.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where you are getting your info, but great topic. I needs to spend some time learning much more or understanding more. Thanks for fantastic info I was looking for this info for my mission.
