A lot of us would not be walking around today if not for the expert people who volunteered their service in the medical corps, who sacrificed personal safety, time, comfort, and sometimes everything because they believed so strongly in saving lives. Their bravery and dedication to their patients (they carry weapons to defend their patients, not for combat) is something I can't even describe, but can only be grateful for.KC Salinghttp://kcsaling.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2442709270787168376.post-14875914656390202362014-11-11T05:52:00.256-05:002014-11-11T05:52:00.256-05:00It's just one of those sad facts of life. In fact, his 17th birthday was spent on Iwo Jima. I always found it a struggle to reconcile the idea of my grandpa in war. This was a man who was kind to everyone, a voracious reader, a clever businessman, who let me curl up on his big tummy while he read me stories, and snuck me candy when my mom's back was turned. And yet he was a man who volunteered not once but twice to serve his country (once while lying to enlist early.) For me now, Veteran's Day is an extraordinarily emotional day. My grandparents were killed together in a car crash a few years ago and my grandfather received a military and Masonic funeral. Serving in the war was as much a part of who he was as being a grandfather. I was reminded of this with all the Remembrance ceremonies over the weekend.Amanda @ Rhyme & Ribbonshttp://www.rhymeandribbons.com/noreply@blogger.com
